Mathurakhanda Surendrasmriti Vidyaniketan
This project focuses on building schools in the remote areas of Sundarbans where the destitute children do not find a chance to study and or get drop out due to poverty.
Mathurakhanda Surendrasmriti Vidyaniketan in Amlamethi village, Gosaba, Sundarbans, is a school which was majorly formed for the drop outs from the surrounding villages. As years passed, the number of students increased and presently 350 students are studying in this school. But the major problem was always the infrastructure. Due to scarcity of funds, the school was underdeveloped and few of the classrooms did not have partitions for separate rooms. On later stage, it became a serious issue in conducting parallel classes at the same time. Moreover, the kitchen area was a temporary structure made out of mud and had a thatched roof, which was a cause of concern to the staff as they often faced problems while cooking mid-day meals for the students.
We inspected the school and its underdeveloped portions and decided to disburse funds for development. We have developed the walls and floors and created partitions for classrooms. The kitchen area was reconstructed and made ready for cooking. Now both the students and the faculties are experiencing a better educational environment.
This event is aligned with the Quality Education Goal of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
